EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

DR ISMARULYUSDA BT ISHAK

 

I am a lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, UKM specializing in Community Health especially micronutrient epidemiology and biostatistics. I have started work in UKM from 2006 immediately after completing my PhD. I am a scientist from Biomedical Science background which provides me a good grasp of health and medical research.

 

My main research areas are in the measurement of trace element minerals or micronutrient such as selenium, manganese, zinc, iodine, copper and chromium. I have completed my PhD research work under three Intensification of Research in Priority Areas (IRPA) Grant mechanism of the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation Malaysia (MOSTI).

 

First  entitled Trace Element Levels Among Aborigines Pahang And Perak, second entitled Micronutrient Status Among Urban Fringe Of Hulu Langat District, Selangor  and the third one was The Effect Of Multivitamin And Mineral Supplementation For IQ And Growth Among School Children Of Hulu Langat District, Selangor.

 

My recent research work is awarded by MOSTI under Sciencefund project on The clinical value of hMAM in Breast Cancer Patient.  I’m also been as co-researcher for Geran Universiti Penyelidikan (GUP) under Family Health and Natural Product. The results and findings of my research work have been published in national journals as well as in numerous proceedings. In addition I have participated more than 30 international and local conferences as paper presenter.

 

As part of teaching aspect, I want my students to understand and demonstrate knowledge of basic and advance statistics in health science profession. I am also train the students to demonstrate ICT literacy especially by using SPSS to do statistical analysis and Wikipedia or Wikispaces in their assignment. I am basically teaching statistic from the basic like t-test, ANOVA and correlation to advance statistic such as Multiple Regression, GLM, Two Way ANOVA, Mixed Split Design ANOVA, ANCOVA and so on. I am also love to teach reliability and validity of questionnaire.

 

My other academic activities include as external examiners of undergraduate students from various department such as Programme of environmental health, Faculty of Pharmacy, Programme of occupational therapy and Programme of Physiotherapy. Other than that I have been a statistic consultant to many undergraduate and postgraduate from local and outsider of UKM. My backgrounds of biomedical science really help me a lot to understand and help to solve statistic problems   from medical.

 

Recently I have been involved as a committee of Academic Visit And Research Collaboration With Fakultas Kesihatan Masyarakat, Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta.
